WIL MYERS WINS A.L.ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD

Wil Myers has been named A.L. Rookie of the year by the BBWAA.

Wil was called up to the Rays mid-June and made his MLB debut on June 18th at Fenway Park.He compiled a .293 BA in 88 games with 13 HR's & 53 RBI's.

At the time of his call up the Rays were mired at one game over .500 and trailed the N.Y.Yankees for the final "Wild Card" spot by 3 games.

In the next 36 games the Rays went  25-11.

During that stretch,Wil had a .331 BA with 7 HR's & 27 RBI's.Overall with Wil in the lineup the Rays were 52-36.

Taking into account the Rays turnaround upon his arrival -- he had a big impact in getting the Rays to the Divisional Series.

Wil led all rookies in Doubles,RBI,On Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage.He was second among rookies in Batting Average,Runs Scored and Home Runs.

He also had 14 "clutch" go ahead hits for the Rays.

Jose Iglesias was acquired by the Detroit Tigers just before the trade deadline,in a three team deal that sent Jake Peavy to the Red Sox.Before the trade Jose played "Spectacular" for the Sox with 71 hits in 63 games.He also had a .785 OPS.He became expendable by the Red Sox with the arrival of Xander Bogaerts.

Chris Archer also arrived in Tampa in early June and was another big factor in the Rays mid-season run.In his first 5 starts he had a 0.73 ERA and was 4-0 with 2 complete games
