RED SOX SIGNINGS

MIKE McCOY

The Boston Red Sox have signed lefhanded pitcher Tommy Layne and super-utility man Mike McCoy to 'Minor League" contracts.


Tommy Lane is a 29 year old 6'2" lefthander .Between 2012 and 2013 he had 40 MLB relief appearences with the San Diego Padres.He sports a 2.84 ERA and a record of 2-2 with 2 saves.He had 31 strikeouts and 8 walks in 25 1/3 innings.Lefties have only hit .175 against him.Lane's MLB numbers are good but they much better than his Minor League numbers where he has struggled.

Mike McCoy,32,has become a super-utility player in his 170 MLB games over the last four years.Although he has played mostly shortstop and second base,he has also played every position except first base and catcher.Yes,he even pitched.He has 380 MLB career plate appearances with a .190 BA and a .273 OBP.

Both signings come with a automatic invitation to 'Spring Training'.
