RED SOX: NEWS & NOTES
Tuesday,November 12,2013.

~ Ben Cherington has been named "The Sporting News" Executive of the year.Ben turned the Red Sox around in one year from last place to a World Series Championship.Beginning with "The Trade" last August,he orchestrated a policy of using the money saved by "The Trade" to bring in experienced "Free Agents" with a proven track record of winning.Congrats to Ben.

~ Ben Cherington met the press yesterday. He noted:

Dustin Pedroia is to have surgery on his thumb today. He fully expects him to be ready for Spring Training.

Catcher: With "Salty" gone he feels "...it will be one of the more interesting positions to watch this offseason." He feels there is potential for trades to be made.

~Clay Buchholz should have a "normal" offseason with no medical issues.

~"Free Agents" The Red Sox do not expect to make any signings this week.Ben confirmed the Sox have had talks will all six Sox Free Agents."We've had conversations...there's a real interest at different levels in all six of them."

~Mike Napoli: It has been reported that Napoli's agent Brian  Grieper have had extensive talks."Mike and his agent have been fully transparent with what's going on and we appreciate that."
"The most important thing,I think,is that he played a full year and had no issues. We don't have any more concern than we did last winter." The ball is fully in Napoli's court. After discovering a "Hip" condition last winter -- he lived up to the compromise the Red Sox made with him last year.He played in 139 games and he had no issues with his hip at all.He also had a .259 BA and was second on the team with 23 HR's and 92 RBI's.Napoli also turned his defensive game around to the point he was ranked one of the best first basemen in the American League by seasons end.
