RED SOX : News & Notes
November 16,2013.

~ Great Blogging Advice: Peter Gammons has weighed in on the reporting during the 'Hot Stove'season. As a 'Blogger' 'The Red Socks blog' could not agree more:"I think those of us with sizable platforms have a responsibility to raise the level of discussion with smart analysis rather that mindless trade rumors. Our goal as writers should be to entertain and enlighten, not get credit for getting to the finish line four minutes before our competitors.I think we should aim higher.I think we'd be better off with a little less hot stove hype and a little more thoughful conversation.Ultimately, the media will respond to reader and viewer preferences,so it's up to you if you want this kind of coverage.I suggest you give your page views to thoughtful analysts rather than someone chasing a scoop. The person who waits to comment on a trade until they actually know for a fact that it is happening is usually the person with something more interesting to say."

~ Fenway Ticket Prices: The Red Sox have announced their ticket prices for 2014.Overall there will be a 4.8% increase in pricing. But the Red Sox will be moving to a 'Variable Pricing Structure" which means that there will be different ticket prices depending on the opposition and the date of the game. The 81 home games will be divided into five 'tiers' with prices increasing with each tier from 5 to 1. "Numerous factors influence our annual ticket-pricing decisions," Red Sox president Larry Lucchino said in a statement issued by the Red Sox."We strive to maintain affordability and ticket accessibility while still generating the revenues necessary to fuel our baseball operations,to fund continuing improvements to the ballpark and to make enhancements to the fan experience - the three main areas in which we reinvest our revenue. New revenue is what affords us the ability to maintain consistently one of the highest payrolls in Major League Baseball - giving our baseball-operations department the capacity to put together a contending, winning team and a strong player development system - and allows for the long-term preservation, protection and improvement of Fenway Park".

~ No contract extension for Bogaerts: The Red Sox have done a great job over the years of development and keeping of talent. There is a unwritten policy to offer contract extensions to their promising young stars before arbitration becomes a option. They did this by giving the player more than they would have gotten in the arbitration process.Next up Xander Bogaerts. But don't look for a contract extension this year. The Red Sox also want their young stars to play at least one full season before offering a extension.Early-career extension often favor teams fiscally while at the same time giving the player a raise in salary.Bogaerts will only be eligible for arbitration in 2017.
