RED SOX MOVE THREE TO 40 MAN ROSTER

GARIN CECCHINI
The Red Sox today moved Bryce Brentz,Anthony Ranaudo and Garin Cecchini to the teams 40 man roster.

The move was made to protect the three from the uncomeing Rule 5 draft.

The Red Sox actually had four spots on the 40 man roster but chose not to add a fourth player.Due to the situation with their 'free agents',the Sox may have to remove players from the 40 man roster later this offseason and these players will have to clear waivers. So it made little sense to add players that may be exposed to waivers later.

The players moved today are:

Garin Cecchini : Ranked 3rd of the Sox prospects behind Bogaerts and Bradley Jr. Cecchini who is 22,showed great hitting ability in the minors with a .322 BA and a .443 OBP between Salem and AA Portland last season. The scouts believe he is destined for third base but he could switch corners and play first. He has yet to hit the long ball in his minor league career. Cecchini is a great prospect and a future everyday big league player.

Anthoney Ranaudo : Ranked 6th of the Sox prospects. He went 11-5 with a 2.96 ERA between AA Portland and after a promotion in August with AAA Pawtucket.Randaudo has a mid-90s fastball and a power curve. He can keep a hitter of balance with a changeup. The scouts predict a future major league starter.

Bryce Brentz : Ranked 18th of the Sox prospects. He played in only 88 games last year due to surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Brentz,in the games he did play, hit .264 with a .312 OBP,.475 slugging mark and 17 homers with AAA Pawtucket.Brentz led all Red Sox minor leaguers with 19 total this year. His power gives him at least a chance to make it as a big leaguer but right now he's prone to strikeouts and may not be a everyday big leaguer. So far he is struggling in the Dominican Winter League this year batting only .105 in 19 games.
