CABRERA WINS A.L. MVP ~ 3 YEARS IN A ROW FOR TIGERS

MIGUEL CABRERA
Miguel Cabrera has won the 2013 A.L.MVP Award.

This marks the third year in a row a Detroit Tiger has won the award.

Again this year the debate came down to Cabrera or Mike Trout.

The awards in baseball are now entering a generational change as younger baseball writers use 'Sabermetrics' as a statistical 'measuring stick' in their selections.

'Sabermetrics',over the next ten years will change the way we view a MVP or Cy Young award winner as older baseball writers retire and are replaced by a generation that 'grew up' on the internet.

This year Cabrera held off Trout for the win.

In the 'sabermetrics' war ( no pun intended) Trout had a WAR (Wins Above Replacement) of 9.2 to Cabrera's 7.2.

Miguel had a .348 BA hit 44 home runs and had 137 RBI's.All stats that are better than Trout.

The idea of a MVP award is to reward the most valuable player to his team.Though the Tigers have one of the best pitching staffs in the league you still have to score runs of your own to win.

During the early part of the season it looked as if Miguel would win the Triple Crown again, but injuries limited his performance down the stretch. In the end Chris Davis of the Orioles beat him out for home runs and RBI's.

Down the stretch and in the postseason Cabrera had a serious groin injury, but played thru it,giving great inspiration to his teammates.

Mike Trout's day will come.No other hitter in the history of baseball has been this great at such a young age (he's 22).

It is difficult to have to choose between two such great players.
But it looks like the Tigers went to the ALCS and the Angels did not make the postseason.

That may have been the tiebreaker.
