~ Rumours abound that the Red Sox have already begun negotiations on a multiyear contract with Mike Napoli.
But that's all it is,a rumour.The only offer the Red Sox made to Napoli was their original $ 14.1 million 'Qualifying Offer' which Mike refused.
~Signings: The Red Sox have signed bench coach Torey Lovullo to a new contract.Lovullo's name was thrown around as a possible managerial candidate for the Cubs.But it is believed that the Cubs are not allowed to hire Red Sox employees away until 2014 as part of Theo Epstein's 'separation agreement'.
~Winter Ball: Alan Webster continues to have 'Big' problems in the Dominican Republic.Webster has made 3 starts for Escogido and his pitching line is 12 IP,13 H,8 ER,6 BB and 7 K.Webster was (8-4 3.60) with the AAA Pawsox in 22 starts last year.In his 8 appearances for Boston his ERA was 8.60.
~First Volley: Philadelphia has signed Marlon Byrd to a two year contract for $ 16 million.Byrd batted .291 with 24 HR's and 35 doubles with the Mets and Pirates last season.
