MLB TO MOVE ON 'VIDEO REPLAY CHALLENGES'

Video Challenges are coming !
MLB vice president Joe Torre says it's a certainty that there will be a new 'replay system' in place for 'Opening Day'.

Torre expects approval by owners, players and umpires by January.

All umpire calls will be reviewable except balls & strikes and checked swings. Some foul tips will be reviewable.

The new system was tested in the Arizona Fall League last week. Two MLB umpires reviewed video and made the final calls.During this test the average review took 1 minute & 40 seconds.

Under the old system three of the four umpires at the ballpark reviewed the video and made the call.Under the new system the challenged calls will be made at a central location.

Torre expects the system to be tested during 'spring training' though not at all parks.

"We have to make sure the managers have a chance to practice with this. They need practice only because it's never been done before, your not going to be able to test it everywhere because you just can't put the equipment everywhere".

The owners are expected to give approval for funding the new replay system on Thursday.

They will approve the rules when they meet in January.
