MLB TO MOVE ON PREVENTING 'HOME PLATE COLLISIONS'

The POSEY Collision
Movement is building toward 'Action' to help prevent collisions at home plate.

A written proposal is expected to be ready for the GM's winter meetings in December.

"There's a pretty good possibility that something eventually will happen.Whether it's going to be soon enough to have it done this coming year that remains to be seen. But I don't think it's impossible" said Joe Torre MLB executive vice president.

Any change in the rules would have to be approved by the player's association.Tony Clark the player's association executive director says the issue will be addressed at the union meeting next month.

Concussions have now become a 'Big Issue' in sports.

The topic of banning collisions has been a hot topic in baseball since Buster Posey, a all-star catcher, broke his leg in a home plate collision with Scott Cousins in 2011.

Red Sox catcher David Ross and Tigers catcher Alex Avila spent large chunks of 2013 on the D/L due to concussions.

Another issue at home plate is when pitchers cover the plate on passed balls and wild pitches.
This issue will be discussed with 'Baseball's Rule Committee' later today.
