RED SOX : News & Notes
December 9,2013.

~ ANDREW BAILEY DRAWING INTEREST : According to reports more than 15 teams have called to express interest in Andrew Bailey. Bailey had season ending shoulder surgery and is not expected to play till mid-May. Bailey would be a great addition to any team, with an incentives-driven contract to prove he's healthy.

~ MORE TANAKA : Rakuten Golden Eagles president Yozo Tchibana is not happy with the new 'posting' system, which limits the posting fee to $ 20 million. The Eagles had hoped to 'cash in' on Masahiro Tanaka as the Nippon Ham Fighters did in 2012 when they received a whopping $ 51.7 million for Yu Darvish. For obvious reasons the Golden Eagles hate the new system and could retaliate against MLB by refusing to 'post' Tanaka. In the end though the Eagles will probably 'post' him. Otherwise they stand to gain nothing in 2 years when he becomes a 'complete' free agent in Japan. It looks like it's $ 20 million or nothing !

~ MEETINGS START WITH 'HALL OF FAME' VOTE : This years winter meetings start today with the expansion era's committee announcing who will enter the 'hall' next year. Aside from the nine deceased members who are being considered, the committee is also considering retired managers Joe Torre, Tony LaRussa and Bobby Cox. Results will be announced later today.

~ WHO'S CANO KIDDING ? : Reports by the New York Post indicate that Robinson Cano did not want to play for Joe Girardi. Apparently he did not like batting second and would have preferred to bat in the middle of the order. I think is safe to assume that all it really came down to was money. If the Yankees would have come up with a few more dollars, I'm sure Robinson would have found a way to play for Girardi.
