Mike Napoli has reached a two year agreement worth $ 32 million with the Red Sox and will be returning to Boston.

"The beard is coming back to Boston!!! Coudn't be happier!!", Napoli posted on TWITTER at 9:09 p.m. last night.

The deal was first reported by WEEI radio. The Red Sox had serious competition from the Texas Rangers, yesterday. They had a very lucrative deal on the table but in the end Napoli elected to stay with the Red Sox. He had hung around Boston for the past couple of weeks and had stated several times how he enjoyed playing in Boston.

Getting Napoli to re-sign was the most important part of this offseason for the Red Sox. He batted .259 last season with a .842 OBS. He also added in 23 home runs and 92 RBI's. But the most important aspect of Napoli to the Red Sox is that he provides protection for David Ortiz in the middle of their batting lineup.

It was a day of high drama for the Red Sox.

Napoli had received a offer from Texas that was too good to refuse. Some of the Red Sox players 'got wind of this' and called Ben Cherington and John Farrell and made it quite clear they wanted Napoli back and that the Red Sox had better 'up their offer'. None of the players who called have yet been named. But it is plural.

The Red Sox then upped their offer to $ 16 million per year. The added intrest by the players themselves may have been the 'capper'.
Napoli saw the players interest as another reason to remain in Boston.

"It's a great fit for me. This is where I want to stay....I love playing here, everything about it.", Napoli said after the World Series.

He here now, for two years.
