BAILEY & KALISH NOT OFFERED CONTRACTS

RYAN KALISH
The Boston Red Sox have not offered contracts to Andrew Bailey and Ryan Kalish. They are now 'free agents' and free to sign with anybody, including Boston.

The Red Sox offered contracts to all their other unsigned players including the five that are eligible for arbitration, Andrew Miller, Junichi Tazawa, Franklin Morales, Mike Carp and newcomer Burke Badenhop.

Bailey had a rough ride in Boston. During his two seasons with the Red Sox he only played in 49 games due to various injuries and is currently recovering from shoulder surgery. He is not expected to be ready to return until mid-season 2014. Bailey can now see what deals are out there or sign a minor league deal with the Red Sox. He could also wait until he is healthy and explore his options then.

Ryan Kalish made his debut with Boston in 2010 after 'burning up' the minor leagues. Early in the 2011 season Kalish injured his shoulder and has not been the same prospect since. He returned in August of 2011 and played for the Red Sox in 36 MLB games, but he played injured with a bulging disc in his neck that required surgery. He did not look like the same player. Kalish had right shoulder surgery in January of 2013 and spinal fusion surgery in August 2013. The Red Sox apparently are interested in a minor league deal.

Kalish said via text message last night that he expects to be ready to play by 'spring training'.

Under the rules of arbitration, Miller, Tazawa, Morales, Carp and Badenhop are considered signed for 2014. If a deal cannot be worked out a arbitrator will decide their salery for 2014.
