RED SOX : News & Notes
December 6,2013.

~ CANO ABOUT TO CASH IN : Reports are coming in that the Seattle Mariners have offered Robinson Cano a 10 year contract worth $ 240 million. If this figure is true, the Yankees assertion they will only go as high as $ 200 million, well the money isn't even in the ballpark for New York. Apparently Cano flew to Seattle yesterday to meet with the Mariners. Their GM Jack Zduriencik declined comment.

GARY DiSARCINA
~ PAWSOX MANAGER WINS AWARD : Gary DiSarcina, manager of the Pawtucket Red Sox has been named 'Minor League Manager of the Year' by Baseball America. Gary led the Pawsox to a 80-63 record and the championship of the International League's North Division. DiSarcina left the Red Sox a couple of weeks ago to become the third base coach for the Los Angeles Angels. Good Luck Gary.

~ WINFIELD JOINS MLBPA : Dave Winfield has joined the Major League Baseball Players Association as a 'Special assistant' to new executive director Tony Clark. Clark, a 15 year veteran of MLB was officially appointed to the position last week upon the death of Michael Weiner. Winfield was a player representative for 15 of the 22 seasons he played.

~ NEW JAPANESE POSTING SYSTEM : MLB is close to establishing a new 'posting system' for Japanese players. Under the proposed deal, MLB clubs must be willing to pay the Japanese player's former team a maximum of $ 20 million for the rights to negotiate a contract. If multiple teams are willing to pay the negotiating fee, the player can negotiate with all of them. The team that signs the player would be the only one that would have to pay the fee.
