RED SOX : News & Notes
December 3,2013.

DICK DODD 1945-2013

~ Dick Dodd 1945-2013 : Dick Dodd drummer and lead singer of the band the Standells has died. The Standells hit "Dirty Water" has become a classic Boston sports song, played at Fenway Park after every Red Sox victory since 1997. Dick Dodd, a former Mouseketeer, died of cancer at a Los Angeles area hospital on Friday. He was 68.

~ 6th Annual David Ortiz Golf Classic : David Ortiz will host his annual Celebrity Golf Classic on December 12-15 in the Dominican Republic. The event supports the David Ortiz Children's Fund, which provides pediatric healthcare for children in the Dominican and the Boston areas. Through December 14th there's a online auction with some unique packages including hitting lessons from Ortiz and a round of golf with former NFL great Lawrence Taylor. ~ Former Red Sox tales : The Chicago Cubs have not tendered Daniel Bard. Bard has had monumental problems since Bobby Valentine's gang tried to turn him into a starter....also Manny Delcarmen has signed a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals. He has not pitched in the big leagues since the Red Sox traded him in 2010.

~ Ellsbury signing on the horizon ? : ESPN's Jason Stark is reporting that a deal for Jacoby Ellsbury may be in place during the winter meetings. His agent Scott Boras said earlier in October he had received calls from 11 teams. One thing is a sure bet - when Ellsbury signs it will probably be the biggest of this offseason.

Scott Boras is rarely in a hurry but clubs are reporting Ellsbury talks are moving faster than expected. Winter-mettings deal not impossible
