RED SOX : News & Notes March 13,2014.

RED SOX : NEWS & NOTES
March 13,2014.

~Is Breslow hurt ? : Craig Breslow says he healthy. Ditto, John Farrell. So why is he only throwing bullpen sessions a couple of weeks into 'spring training' ? Does he have shoulder problems. The Red Sox are being mum.

~Rich Hill returns : Lefthander Rich Hill, who reported to Red Sox camp March 6, threw 25 pitches during a minor league intrasquad game Wednesday. He faced six batters, getting four strikeouts.
“To get out there today felt great," said Hill, who is mourning the death of his infant son. "Pitching again and being on the mound competing and doing your best, that’s what I needed to be doing."
Hill threw his pitches from an arm angle that was a touch lower than three-quarters. In recent years, he has experimented with a sidearm delivery, then threw over the top with the Indians last season.“This is comfortable for me," he said. "The ball looks the same coming out of my hand every time, whether it’s a cutter or breaking ball or fastball. I had a chance to start with a clean slate and this works for me.”Hill’s next appearance is expected to be in a game, perhaps this weekend.

~Red Sox add extra coach at Pawtucket : The Sox added an extra coach to Pawtucket's staff this season. One of Bruce Crabbe's duties will be teaching some of the same base-running skills and philosophies that Brian Butterfield is preaching in the majors. He'll do the same with some defensive aspects of the game. The idea is for players to be better prepared for the nuances when they're called up. It's the kind of thing that could help win a game.

~Koji looks the same : Koji Uehara is the least bit affected by last season's workload. Same guy, same pitches, same efficiency.

~T.V. update : Today's game is on FSNO beginning at 1 p.m.

~ Stephen Drew has regrets :Red Sox players say Stephen Drew now regrets not taking the qualifying offer when he had the chance. But the veteran players have turned from the idea that the team needs Drew back. That was the case at the beginning of camp, but not since they've had a chance to see Will Middlebrooks re-commit himself.

~Redemption Dept. :  A redemptive spring training for Bryce Brentz and Drake Britton so far. Brentz had his invite to camp rescinded when he shot himself in the leg last year. Now he's mashing at the plate. Britton was exiled to the minor league camp after a drunk driving arrest in 2013. Now he's one of the most impressive pitchers in camp, Tuesday's loss aside.
